Eurovision 2010: UK bookies have Israel as favourites to win in Oslo
British turf accountant William Hill has opened its book on the runners and riders in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest - despite France's and Ukraine's (final) entry still lurking in the shadows awaiting their respective big reveals.
However, the clear front runner in what many experts are calling the hardest year to predict a winner for some time (mainly because all the songs are especially so-so) is, surprisingly, Harel Skaat's symphonic slow-burner for Israel.
The rest of the odds are in 'ere...
Here you can see William Hill's full list of odds for Eurovision 2010. The UK is surprisingly highly priced at 33/1, although we are promised a significantly different version of That Sounds Good to Me than was heard on Your Country Needs You on Friday night.
Ireland is presented at the same price, although I think Niamh has a far better craic at the trophy (did you see what I did there..?) than Josh Dubovie. Anyway, the list in full:
5/1 Israel
11/2 Azerbaijan
6/1 Denmark
15/2 Norway
10/1 Croatia
12/1 Greece, Armenia and Sweden
14/1 Germany
20/1 Belgium
25/1 Ukraine
33/1 Slovakia, Iceland, United Kingdom, Ireland and Turkey
40/1 Moldova, Spain and Romania
50/1 Russia, Malta, Lithuania, Cyprus and Georgia
66/1 Bosnia & Herzegovina, Estonia, Albania and Serbia
80/1 Finland and Switzerland
100/1 Latvia, Belarus, Portugal, France, Bulgaria and The Netherlands
150/1 Slovenia
200/1 FYR Macedonia and Poland
Now, of course, Boom Bang a Blog would not dream of endorsing gambling to any of its readers. All I am going to do is mention how *interested* I was to see two particular countries offered at 40/1 based on what I've seen and heard of their performances and leave it at that.
Ahem.

I'd reorder it as such:
Azerbaijan
Israel
Denmark
Norway
Croatia
Greece, Armenia and Sweden
Germany
Belgium
Slovakia, Iceland, United Kingdom, Ireland and Turkey
Moldova, Spain and Romania
Lithuania, Cyprus and Georgia
Bosnia & Herzegovina, Estonia and Albania
Finland and Switzerland
Latvia, Belarus, Portugal, France, Bulgaria and The Netherlands
Slovenia
FYR Macedonia and Poland
Russia and Malta
Serbia
Ukraine
Azerbaijan is leading Israel in the odds, and it should be plainly obvious to anyone that Russia, Malta, Serbia, and Ukraine's entries suck total donkey balls.
Interesting Katharine - the 5 I'd picked out as the best songs include both Russia and Malta, along with Latvia and Poland who also did quite badly in William Hill's betting odds. My favourite song by a long way this year though is Armenia, which is one of only two 'Eastern' songs doing well in Hill's list. While I'd agree with you that Israel's song is half decent, I'm afraid Azerbaijan's, Denmark's and Norway's have all failed to grab me so far. Perhaps our differing taste in donkey balls is merely a matter of how they are cooked?
