Happy New Year Boom Bang a Bloggers! What with the festive season and everything to be getting along with, it has become apparent that some bits of breaking news in the World of Eurovision have been neglected. For that I can only apologise. And now rectify.

First up. Switzerland has announced its representative for Oslo. The man with the striking sideburns is none other than Michael von der Heide. Sixty songs were sent in to the internal committee at Swiss telly, with his song getting the nod. The song is called Il pleut de l'or and we'll be hearing it soon(ish).

Israel has also revealed their representative in Norway. It's poster boy Harel Skaat, who is proving a populat choice in all sorts of corners of the Eurovision fanworld.

And concluding this trio of boy singers, it's Vasiliy Lazarovich, who will perform a selection of songs later in the New Year, from which a favourite will be selected.

The number of representatives in Norway has also been confirmed by the European Broadcasting Union. It's 39 - and those nations in question are:

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, FYR Macedonia Georgia, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Latvia Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom

It's all starting to shape up nicely. The first national finals of 2010 are just around the corner...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Swiss entry translate as "The Golden Shower"?

I believe so, Ms Geekette, but as I'm so pure of soul, and as this is a family-orientated blog, I couldn't think of a way to point it out without looking like a dirty divil.
