Eurovision Champ in Liverpool?

EchoArena.jpg As you are no doubt aware, the Echo Arena in Liverpool hosts the MTV Europe Music Awards on Thursday, November 6 - but what does all that trendy music which young people listen to in their bedrooms have to do with the Song Contest?

We'd ask those two people in the photograph, but to be frank, we don't know who they are and we're not entirely sure they'd know anyway.

However, as the Awards go out across the Continent, there are categories for most of the countries who take the broadcast (can't wait to see who gets Best Moldovan Act).

DimaBilan.jpgOne such nation is Russia and the odds-on favourite to take the Best Russian Act trophy for 2008 (and he's won it before) is proud son Dima Bilan (pictured), who won this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade with the snoozefest Believe. Can you imagine it? Someone who's won the Song Contest being not-very-far-at-all from Boom Bang a Blog HQ? Let's hope Dima can find room somewhere in the Echo Arena (although it holds about 10,500 people) for his mate on the ice skates and the other fella who played the violin as part of his winning Eurovision stage show.

Just in case you want to relive that winning moment from this year's Contest, we've included it here. Boom Bang a Blog can take no responsibility for anyone who falls asleep with boredom before Dima has finished singing and falls off their chair.

He's the first male soloist to win for 18 years. There, that's something interesting about him, then.

I think I hate this song more than the 2002 winner, 'I Wanna', and that's saying something.

I have really liked most of the ESC entries from Russia. So why did they have to win with Dima Bilan's megabore of a song 'Believe'? If I had to make the choice between listening to it again or eating my own leg, I would seriously have to think about it.

Sebastian Tellier, the French should have won.
