McEurovision

Aah... I attended the University of Glasgow between 1995 and 1999 so I am chuffed to bits that the city is hosting this year's Eurovision Dance Contest on Saturday, September 6.

Here is the venue. It was called the Armadillo when it opened (while I was living there) but now goes by the name of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. But you can see why it had its original moniker from the pic.

As the BBC originated the Strictly Come Dancing concept (which the Dance Contest is a variation of), it got the hosting rights to the first two competitions. After this year, the winning nation hosts the next Contest.

There is still scant info about the event, but there has been some changes from the inaugural event in London last year.

Each country will perform one dance, not two, and the couples will be comprised of one professional dancer and one amateur.

It will all be done and dusted far quicker than the Song Contest too. The scheduled running time of one hour and 45 minutes, it's exactly half that of its singing big brother.

More news as we get it, although it has been confirmed that Azerbaijan will make its debut this year.

How exciting.
